His body was formed from the Scottish highlands hills and valleys.
The morning mist gave him his soft coverhair.
A hand of lichen became his topknot, crooked juniper his forelegs and a wet bramble became his nose.
1875 "The Dandie Dinmont Club" was founded in Scottish Selkirk. Along with "The Bulldog Club" is the Brittish dandieclub the worlds oldest club.
The dandies has kept their typical look in over 100 years. The mobility, agility and curage which was in the hunting dandy, Is even today found in a good dandie. The instinct of hunting slumbers, a dog who has learnt to come when you call can walk loose during the walk in the forest. The dandie is different from all other terriers. As a puppy they are active, but as a grown up they get a more placid mind.
With big brown eyes, the dandie looks up at you. Despite he for many have a comical look, he will soon with his paws in your knee show you his dignity and integrity. Then you will be ashamed for your easy mind, but it is okay. The dandie forgives, he doesn't take the human so serious either.
The dandie is nor though or difficult to raise. But as a owner you have to have patience when the dandie gets absorbed by smelling, looking or wondering. Then it takes some seconds before he notices that he is spoken to. With other dogs he acts nicely and with great dignity, but if he get pushed enough, he will go off like a rocket. To us the dandie really is the mans best friend. He is tough and will gladly join you on your long walk with the family, but he is just as pleased to sleep in grandma's lap. The most important thing is that his not pushed aside, but is allowed to join. We would like more people to learn to know this unique terrier.
